The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. San Salvador - Quezaltepeque 89-61 Liga MB top team - San Salvador (13-1) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Quezaltepeque (7-8) 89-61. It was a great shooting night for San Salvador especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Panamanian Alejandro Grant (199-1993) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 4 assists. Point guard Martin Ramos (171-1992) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. Dominican forward Rayner Moquete (185-1990, college: Binghamton) replied with 5 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists and Douglas Baires (-1988) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Quezaltepeque. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Salvador have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record, which they share with Santa Tecla. Quezaltepeque at the other side dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. San Salvador is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Quezaltepeque will play against Santiagueno (#9) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win. Santa Tecla outscored guests from Chalchuapa 139-73. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 32. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 62-21 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 41 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. The winners were led by Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 31 points, 27 rebounds and 5 assists (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and Dominican forward Adonis Lopez (-1997) supported him with 23 points and 14 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. Coach Ernesto Rodriguez's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by American Gorg Alhag (190-1997, college: Mayville St.) did not help to save the game for Chalchuapa. Ryann Mercado added 21 points for the guests. Santa Tecla have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with San Salvador. Chalchuapa lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Santa Tecla will meet Metapan (#4) on the road in the next round. Chalchuapa will play against the league's leader San Salvador (#1) and hope to win that game. One of their biggest challengers Metapan (7-7) played at the court of sixth ranked Brujos (7-7). Brujos smashed Metapan 109-86. They outrebounded Metapan 46-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Brujos players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican swingman Jonatan Bello (195-2001) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists and Dominican forward Juan De Los Santos (193-2002) who added 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Brujos' coach Francisco Lemus felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lee Vasquez (176-1991) responded with 24 points, 8 assists and 4 steals and American point guard Leangelo Saravia (183, college: Oakland City) scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Brujos have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Metapan. Brujos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Metapan will play at home against the league's second-placed Santa Tecla (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by forward Chase Berry (198-1998, college: Boise St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds and center Troidell Carter (206-1991, college: Slippery Rock) supported him with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Even a double-double of 29 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists by Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) did not help to save the game for Fantasmas. Fantasmas' coach Julio Villalta tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Santiagueno dominated down low during the game scoring 94 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 40. They outrebounded Santa Ana 60-24 including a 47-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santiagueno looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Santa Ana's players. The winners were led by American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 27 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) supported him with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Four Santiagueno players scored in double figures. Even 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists by American guard Anthony Strickland (196-1993, college: EMU) did not help to save the game for Santa Ana. Erick Rojas (183-1996) added 15 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Santiagueno maintains ninth position with 4-10 record. Santa Ana lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost. Santiagueno will meet higher ranked Quezaltepeque (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Santa Ana will have a break next round.
